Russia sees no reason to impose additional international sanctions on Iran, said on Thursday Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

In an interview with Bloomberg news agency, Lavrov said world powers should ease sanctions against Iran to encourage countries to cooperate to solve the problem of its nuclear program.

Last June, Iran has been the subject of further UN sanctions, backed by Russia and followed by unilateral measures taken by the harder the United States and the European Union. Russia will not support new sanctions against Iran, “said Lavrov.

“It’s a process that can only be successful if we do not count on new sanctions or new threats, but on the negotiations,” Lavrov was hammered.

Negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of Security Council plus Germany (5 +1) are deadlocked since last January and Russia believe that incentives are needed to restart the process quickly, Lavrov said.

“We must demonstrate to Iran that if it cooperates, it responds adequately to the demands of the IAEA, then he will see the light at the end of the tunnel,” said the head of Russian diplomacy.

The IAEA investigation into Iran’s nuclear program since 2003, during which the organization has learned that Tehran had hidden atomic research for two decades.

The United States accuses Iran of trying to manufacture nuclear weapons, while Iran says its program is intended only as to meet the energy demand. Russia has built Iran’s first nuclear power plant and expects to launch operations at Bushehr near future.
